If you don't fulfill your responsibility at the game you are assigned to, you will be suspended for a minimum of 2 quarters. Be sure to arrange for a replacement if you can't make it on your scheduled night. I tried to schedule everyone on nights they will already be there. Let me know right away if you see any place I scheduled someone for a game they are supposed to play.

Good luck to everyone in their games tonight!

P.S. I suggest everyone downloads and prints this schedule to keep track of when you play and when you are scheduled for your position. I can't call and remind everyone every week so please try to remember on your own.

The second quarter started slower, and Team Miller didn’t score a point for the first four minutes of the quarter. As he left the game, Team Johnson took advantage and build a lead by the end of the third quarter.

At the start of the fourth, Team Johnson looked in control and began scoring back and forth between Team Stephens. Darren Jenkins had a quick steal and on the fast break, got fouled and twisted his knee, causing him to leave the game as well. After he left the game, Team Stephens began to press Team Johnson and cause turnovers, which led to some easy buckets. With 45 seconds left in the game, Team Johnson led but Brett Jenkins hit a 3 pointer and got fouled, converting for a four point play. On Team Stephens next possession, Brett hit a free throw line jumper to put his team up by 1 with 3.9 seconds left. Game 1 - Stephens vs. Miller (V)
by William Evan
8/07/09

This game was really an exciting game to start off the season, with both teams putting forth a lot of effort. It was a low scoring game with Team Stephens scoring 16 points and Team Miller scoring 19 points at half time, but Team Stephens picked up the pace in the second half scoring 34 of their 50 points.
Team Miller picked up more rebounds than Team Stephens, 40-25, but they weren’t able to put it in the basket due to Team Stephens defense forcing Team Miller to shoot 28%. Team Stephens had good teamwork throughout the game and were in control most of the game.
In the second quarter Team Miller's offense scored 13 points while Team Stephens scored only 6 points with the help of Jared P. and Dana, but Team Miller wasn't able to maintain the offensive pace, scoring only 7 point to the Stephens 15 in the next quarter due to Team Stephens' defense.
In the fourth quarter both teams picked up their offense with Ethan and James S. both scoring double digits for Team Stephens and Jared and Dana scoring double digits for Team Miller. The game ended up being a defensive battle with Team Stephens coming out on top. James Stephens led Team Stephens to victory with 16 points 8 rebounds 6 assists 3 steals and 3 blocks.

Game 2 - Jenkins vs. Miller (JV)
by Andrew Johnson 8/07/10
Strong competition within the first junior varsity game of the season quickly replaced the excitement of the new season from players of both team Miller and team Jenkins. Team Jenkins led the competition with a 3 point attack in the first half and a 16 point lead in the second half to win the game 51-35.
In the first quarter team Jenkins had control most of the quarter. Daniel Ashton #36 amazingly shot 66% on his 3 point shots in the first quarter, but that percentage wouldn't last. Team Jenkins would lead in the first quarter by 9 points (18-9).
Through the second quarter team Miller's defense worked to steal the ball and rush it down the court to get quick baskets. In the second quarter team Miller had 5 steals and would score 16 points to trail team Jenkins by 3 points at half time.
With a half time score of 28 Team Jenkins and 25 Team Miller, both teams kept the competition high. Starting the third quarter, Team Jenkins defensively outplayed team Miller significantly. Team Jenkins allowed no points by team Miller. Although team Miller drew 5 fouls in the third they couldn't hold the ball long enough to get points on the board. Team Jenkins offense had 8 steals and 19 rebounds in the third. They would score 12 points in the third leading by 15 points in the start of the fourth. Just before the end of the third Steven Miller was injured coming down from 2 point attempt. He was escorted by teammates to the bleachers and by the end of the game he was walking around with a slight limp. He is optimistic about playing in junior varsity game 2 on 9/8/10.
Beginning the fourth quarter both teams battled for the control of the ball while also keeping the others defense struggling for a rebound. Team Miller would finish the quarter with 13 rebounds, 6 turnovers, and 10 points. Team Jenkins would finish off the quarter with 11 points and the game with a lead of 16 points and the first Junior Varsity win of the 2010-2011 season.

Totaling 9 rebounds, 6 turnovers, 4 steals, and 13 points team Johnson would continue with the same intensity. Team Jenkins totaled 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 6 turnovers and 11 points. Ryan Jenkins started the game with back to back jumpshots to start his team. Jared Kingston answered by driving in for a couple layups. Both teams brought this furor to the second quarter. Team Johnson would keep the lead by 5 points due to 2 three pointers from Darren Johnson at the end of the quarter. With the score 30 – 25 after the first half the second would be the final struggle for the game.
In the third quarter team Johnson would trail by 12 points. Team Jenkins scored 19 points in the third as Slade Jenkins and Zachariah Peterson led an attack on the basket netting them points and offensive rebounds. In the 4th quarter Kent Miller fought hard to bring his team to within one point of team Jenkins but team Jenkins answered again with Zachariah and Slade as their offensive weapons. By the end of the game, the two combined for 33 of the Jenkins 57 points. Season Underway

The season is officially underway; the wait is over! Last night was a huge success. There were no technical fouls, no dirty plays and no sassing the refs. I don't know about everyone else but I sure felt a little rusty. Hopefully that rust can shake off in the weeks to come. Congratulations to the winners of last night's games.

Unfortunately, we are still fixing some things with the stats and website. We will not be able to have stats up until 8 PM on the night following the games (Thursday). The system we are working on will have the stats up directly following the games on Wednesday night. We will also be able to stream videos of the game from the night before. We're hoping to have all this up and running within a month.

Let the Games Begin!

The long awaited basketball season is finally here! Tonight is the night! For all those who have been living under a rock, the basketball season's first games will be tonight at the Murray Boys and Girls Club. First game starts at 7:00. For all those who have been waiting, ever so patiently, for this day to come... IT'S FINALLY HERE!! I'm excited! I hope all of you are. This will be the best season ever!

See schedule posted below if you're not sure when your team plays tonight.

Tonight participants will have a chance to volunteer for when they want to fulfill their required positions. Positions meaning referees, stats, scoreboard and camera. Volunteer early if you want to choose when you can help in the games because positions' times slots will be given out on a first come first serve basis. Everyone is required to help out this year; everyone was assigned to a position and everyone must help with the required amount of games. If you don't know what position you were assigned to, ask me. I'll also help you to know what training is required for your position.

We've had a few additions this year that will improve the league in many ways. The addition of the committee and commissioner have made everything more organized, among many other things. The addition of the by-laws and mission statement help to make sure all players understand what the league is all about and what each participants responsibilities are, on and off the court. The addition of the referee training will ensure games will be refereed by people who understand the rules and regulations of the game. This blog is another addition that will help improve the league by giving all the participants in the league the chance to stay caught up on the latest news.

Our main website is under construction right now. We're working on a whole bunch of improvements. Soon we'll be able to view videos of the games right on our website. We'll also be improving the way stats for each game are presented and organized. For now, keep checking here in the blog for the latest and greatest news.
