It's been a long time since the blog has been updated. I apologize for that. I'll do my best to keep up on the latest news for the basketball league for the rest of the season. AND I finally updated the standings to the left.
I'm excited about the playoffs! Next Wednesday, the 22nd, is the last three games of the regular season. The last week of the regular season has three important games. Each game will decide the outcome of each teams' seeding in the playoffs. Seeding is important this year, as I will explain later.
The first game Wednesday, Johnson vs. Jenkins, has first place at stake for Jenkins and third place at stake for Johnson. Right now Jenkins and Stephens have identical records of 8-3, with Stephens owning the tiebreaker. In order for Jenkins to obtain first place in the playoffs, they will have to win their game and Stephens will have to lose theirs. Regardless of what happens in the first game, if Stephens wins their game they own first place. Miller and Johnson have identical records of 3-8. Neither team owns the tiebreaker with wins. If both teams win or both teams lose Wednesday the tiebreaker will be decided by point differential in games where they played each other.
The lone varsity game between Jenkins and Miller has first place at stake for Jenkins team. If they win they will have the same record as Stephens but own the tiebreaker due to point differential in head to head matches. Miller has third place locked in.
As I said earlier, there's a lot at stake in the games Wednesday. Seeding in the playoffs is important because this year's playoffs will be a double elimination tournament. First place team plays fourth place team, second plays third. After that it depends who wins and loses. The first two teams with two losses are eliminated from the playoffs. After those teams are gone the remaining two teams will play a 3-game series. This applies to both the JV and V leagues.
I wish you all the best of luck in the games Wednesday and the rest of the season in the playoffs!
