Playoffs Underway

The playoffs got started last night with two varsity games and one JV game. There we some intense ball being played by all teams last night. It was definitely a playoff, must-win atmosphere. Both the Stephens JV and V teams came out with a win. Jenkins V team also came out on top.  Next weeks schedule will be played as follows:

Game 1: JV - Jenkins vs. Johnson
Game 2: Varsity - Johnson vs. Miller
Game 3: JV - Miller vs. Game 1 Loser

All season long, teams have had the luxury of playing only one game per night. This next Wednesday that luxury will not be available for either Jenkins or Johnson team. The team who loses the first game will play Miller team in the last game. This is the one and only time the whole season this will happen. After this week we will only have two games per night. That way teams will only have to play once a night. This schedule may change if enough people have a problem with it. Let us know what your opinion is. Should we push the late game to the next week or just let the team who loses in game 1 battle it out in the last game?

The regular season is over. Teams have been ranked for the playoffs. Let the fun begin! Playoffs will be played over the next five weeks to determine which team is the champion of the DCCS Basketball League.

The schedule will be announced here on the blog every Thursday throughout the playoffs. It has to be done this way because of the way double elimination tournaments work

Playoffs Coming Up

It's been a long time since the blog has been updated. I apologize for that. I'll do my best to keep up on the latest news for the basketball league for the rest of the season. AND I finally updated the standings to the left.

I'm excited about the playoffs! Next Wednesday, the 22nd, is the last three games of the regular season. The last week of the regular season has three important games. Each game will decide the outcome of each teams' seeding in the playoffs. Seeding is important this year, as I will explain later.
The first game Wednesday, Johnson vs. Jenkins, has first place at stake for Jenkins and third place at stake for Johnson. Right now Jenkins and Stephens have identical records of 8-3, with Stephens owning the tiebreaker. In order for Jenkins to obtain first place in the playoffs, they will have to win their game and Stephens will have to lose theirs. Regardless of what happens in the first game, if Stephens wins their game they own first place. Miller and Johnson have identical records of 3-8. Neither team owns the tiebreaker with wins. If both teams win or both teams lose Wednesday the tiebreaker will be decided by point differential in games where they played each other.
The lone varsity game between Jenkins and Miller has first place at stake for Jenkins team. If they win they will have the same record as Stephens but own the tiebreaker due to point differential in head to head matches. Miller has third place locked in.

As I said earlier, there's a lot at stake in the games Wednesday. Seeding in the playoffs is important because this year's playoffs will be a double elimination tournament. First place team plays fourth place team, second plays third. After that it depends who wins and loses. The first two teams with two losses are eliminated from the playoffs. After those teams are gone the remaining two teams will play a 3-game series. This applies to both the JV and V leagues.

I wish you all the best of luck in the games Wednesday and the rest of the season in the playoffs!
