Season Completed

Congratulations to the all star winning teams. James' team won the varsity game. Patrick's team won the JV game. Sooo... the champions have been determined, all star games have been played. What's left to do in the world of DCCS Basketball? Not much, except prepare for next season! I hope everyone who is interested in participating in the DCCS Basketball League for the 2011-2012 season will practice during the off-season. Develop your talents and skills to come back for the best season of your life!

We haven't decided when the 2011-2012 season will commence. In 2010-2011 we had a pre-season and a regular season. What did you think of that? Should we do it again this year? Or do you think we should have the season start in the fall, after the softball season is over? Lend me your opinion. Also, tell me what you liked and didn't like about this past season. Please let me know if you have any ideas that will help improve our league.

  1. I like the idea of a pre-season followed by a regular season, but I think the pre-season should be played with the same team that you're going to be on during the regular season.
Starting in the fall seems most logical because with baseball in the summer you pretty well have the sports area of your life full up.

Also what about the option of playing with more teams? I'm assuming that alot more people are going to sign up for next season and I personally think it would be funner to play against more teams.

  2. I think that we should for sure have a pre-season I think it would be better in summer because baseball isnt even fun and we need something fun to do over the summer!

  4. just a thought, but i think it would bennefit every player and team if we had a coaching position on each team. i understand that it would be really really hard to find someone who would want to coach and not play, but if we could find some people that are knowlegable in basketball that would coach i think it would bennefit everyone. please comment your thoughts James S, and Garret

  5. I agree with Anonymous. A coaching position on each team would benefit our league. We've approached a few people with the idea of being a coach and most have a hard time dedicating so much time.
There isn't anything in the by-laws that prevents a team from having a coach. If any of the players are able to find a willing coach and the captain of the team is ok with it then I don't see any reason not to have a coach. But to find a coach for each of the teams in the league would be nearly impossible.

  6. I also agree with Anonymous. I would encourage coaching positions to be developed through the JV league. Last season, Garrett and I coached our JV teams (Carson also coached Mike's JV team if I recall correctly). There was for sure some benefit in having a coach and I think eventually we will have coaches in the V league as well.

The next step would probably be to provide some suggestions for people that won't be playing the league but that would make good coaches. They may not say yes, but it won't hurt to ask. Time will be the issue. But, if there is a father that has a son in the league, it may be worth his time to coach his son's team.

Let us know who you have in mind as possible coaches and we can have the topic of coach involvement as an item to discuss at out next committee meeting.

  10. Haha FB may be evil to some. Anything could be evil. It all depends on how you use it. ;)
FB is a simple way to share information with everyone on there. Since there are some anonymous people who don't use FB I posted it here on the blog too. GOOD LUCK to all the teams this season!!
