DCCS Winners Announced, Playoff Games

A lot happened last night! For those of you who missed it, here's a quick recap. The first of a 3-game series was played between the JV teams Stephens and Jenkins. The victor was Stephens by a score of 52-43. We then held the VERY EXCITING dunk competition! I feel bad for anyone who didn't get to see the competition. It was a thrilling event to witness. We got video and pictures and will hopefully post them later. The winners of the dunk competition were announced in the awards ceremony that followed. The winners were:

JV Dunk Champion - Austin Stowell
V Dunk Champion - Dean Stephens

This is the first year our league has given awards like these. All the players voted for who they thought was most deserving. We rewarded each of the highest vote-getters with trophies and bragging rights for the next year.
In our first annual awards ceremony the winners were:
Defensive, Most Improved, Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man Trophies

Rookie of the Year - James Young
JV Sixth Man - Charles Jenkins
V Sixth Man - Brett Jenkins
JV Most Improved - Ortell Kingston
V Most Improved - Zach Peterson
JV Defensive Player - Austin Stowell
V Defensive Player - Ash Jenkins
JV MVP - Jonathon Reynolds
V MVP - Garrett Jenkins

Congratulations to all the winners.

After the awards ceremony, the varsity championship series commenced. The first game of the 3-game series between Miller and Jenkins was won by Jenkins by a score of 58-49.

Last night was a huge success! This league has amounted to much more than anything I could have imagined when James and I first had the idea of starting a basketball league. Thank you for all who have participated and helped to make this league such a great success. I believe the awards, competitions and excellent gamesmanship of our league will help us to keep the league for many years to come.

We also unveiled the championship trophies that will be given to the winning teams for this year.

Championship Trophies
Don't forget! The next games will be held this coming Saturday at the same place from 6-8:30. Hope to see you all there!
