Stats Are Posted!

This is the first time this season we've had stats posted. Sorry about the delay in putting up stats. We've had to deal with crappy laptops crashing in the middle of games and losing all the info. One of the laptops we used died completely losing all the information for the past games. We are working on recovering the lost information and will get that up as soon as possible. If worse comes to worst we will recover the stats using the video of the games. That will take some time so please be patient.

Positions Schedule

There have been some changes made to the scheduling this year. The captains are now responsible for scheduling the referees, stats, scoreboard and camera guys. We are also getting more strict about people shirking their responsibilities on the sideline. Anyone who doesn't show up when they are scheduled to help will be suspended. If you see you are scheduled to help on the sideline, be there or make sure someone is there to take your place. Talk to your captain if you need to make changes to the schedule. Let The Games Begin

The season is finally underway! JV took the stage in the first night of the 2011-2012 season. Shaun and his JV crew got the first win of the season, beating Jeremy K's team 44-42. Braden's JV crew dominated the second game, beating David A's team 45-30.
This is the start of the best basketball season EVER!

2011 Season

The 2011 season is so close I can taste it!! All the teams have been picked, guys are getting trained for their positions and the official schedule is finally ready to release:

Official 2011 regular season schedule
For those of you who haven't been trained for your sideline help position, you may want to talk to your captain about getting trained. There is a rule in effect this year that does not allow you to play if you are not able to fulfill the positions you are scheduled for. To put it simply, if you aren't trained, you can't play. So everyone get trained please!! I would hate for someone to not be able to play just because they procrastinated too long. Talk to your captain about where you will be helping on the sideline and how you can get trained.

Season Completed

Congratulations to the all star winning teams. James' team won the varsity game. Patrick's team won the JV game. Sooo... the champions have been determined, all star games have been played. What's left to do in the world of DCCS Basketball? Not much, except prepare for next season! I hope everyone who is interested in participating in the DCCS Basketball League for the 2011-2012 season will practice during the off-season. Develop your talents and skills to come back for the best season of your life!

We haven't decided when the 2011-2012 season will commence. In 2010-2011 we had a pre-season and a regular season. What did you think of that? Should we do it again this year? Or do you think we should have the season start in the fall, after the softball season is over? Lend me your opinion. Also, tell me what you liked and didn't like about this past season. Please let me know if you have any ideas that will help improve our league.

Champions Crowned

We crowned two champion teams Saturday night! The crowning of these champions caps off and amazing season for the DCCS Basketball League. It's been a season full of game-winners, intense basketball and playoff thrillers. It's been an epic season; one for the history books. There's a lot of firsts for the league this year:

  • First year commissioner: Brett Jenkins
  • First year committee of seven: Brett Jenkins, Carson Jenkins, Gabe Reynolds, Ethan Tucker, Steven Miller, James Stephens Owen and Garrett Jenkins.
  • First year with a pre-season and regular season
  • First year with JV and V leagues
  • First annual awards ceremony
  • First year trophies were awarded
  • First double overtime game

That's all I can think of for now. Is there any other "firsts" you can think of, for the league?

2010-2011 DCCS Basketball Champions

Junior Varsity Champs - Team Stephens

Varsity Champs - Team Jenkins

Congratulations to the winning teams. Good luck cutting up the trophy to share amongst yourselves.

The season isn't quite over yet. There is still one more amazing night of basketball to be played. The all stars will go compete for this year's bragging rights this Saturday from 6-8:30. Teams will be announced tomorrow so stay tuned.

DCCS Winners Announced, Playoff Games

A lot happened last night! For those of you who missed it, here's a quick recap. The first of a 3-game series was played between the JV teams Stephens and Jenkins. The victor was Stephens by a score of 52-43. We then held the VERY EXCITING dunk competition! I feel bad for anyone who didn't get to see the competition. It was a thrilling event to witness. We got video and pictures and will hopefully post them later. The winners of the dunk competition were announced in the awards ceremony that followed. The winners were:

JV Dunk Champion - Austin Stowell
V Dunk Champion - Dean Stephens

This is the first year our league has given awards like these. All the players voted for who they thought was most deserving. We rewarded each of the highest vote-getters with trophies and bragging rights for the next year.
In our first annual awards ceremony the winners were:
Defensive, Most Improved, Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man Trophies

Rookie of the Year - James Young
JV Sixth Man - Charles Jenkins
V Sixth Man - Brett Jenkins
JV Most Improved - Ortell Kingston
V Most Improved - Zach Peterson
JV Defensive Player - Austin Stowell
V Defensive Player - Ash Jenkins
JV MVP - Jonathon Reynolds
V MVP - Garrett Jenkins

Congratulations to all the winners.

After the awards ceremony, the varsity championship series commenced. The first game of the 3-game series between Miller and Jenkins was won by Jenkins by a score of 58-49.

Last night was a huge success! This league has amounted to much more than anything I could have imagined when James and I first had the idea of starting a basketball league. Thank you for all who have participated and helped to make this league such a great success. I believe the awards, competitions and excellent gamesmanship of our league will help us to keep the league for many years to come.

We also unveiled the championship trophies that will be given to the winning teams for this year.

Championship Trophies
Don't forget! The next games will be held this coming Saturday at the same place from 6-8:30. Hope to see you all there!
